April 14th & 15th 2018 saw the start to the Aerobic Gymnastics competition season in Fareham. The Splitz aerobic squad started the year off very well!
First out on Saturday were our National level gymnasts (NAC) Our group 1 trio of Ellise King, Erin Aggett and George Weall produced a fantastic routine! Showing excellent artistry, execution and team work earning themselves the gold medal with a clear 2.45 lead over second place! Next up was Emily Allison-Hawkes in the National development category. This was Emily’s first competition at National level showing great potential for the year ahead. Emily then joined team mates Aggett, Weall, Astill and Taylor to compete in the 11-14 age category as a group. The group showed that their new routine was a cut above the rest and walked away with another gold medal!
Sunday continued with the National level competition and first up were the 11-14 individual women. Ellise King had a very promising start to the year, producing a classy routine to finish joint 3rd. Unfortunately the other competitors execution score was 0.05 higher meaning Ellise just missed out on a medal. Laila Astill and Izzy Taylor both competed in the individual category for the first time in this age group. Both gave dynamic performances and showed great promise for the rest of the year. Next up were our International (FIG) level gymnasts and first onto the floor was National Development gymnast Millie Baker. Millie showed excellent potential in all areas but unfortunately made a slight error on the day. Following Millie was Brother Charlie Baker in the National development individual men’s category. Charlie performed his new Footloose routine showing off fantastic artistry and execution to win the gold medal. The penultimate routine from the Splitz squad saw Toby Baker take to the floor in the group 1 age 12-14 category. Toby gave a confident and strong performance to earn the bronze medal. In our final routine Toby was joined by team mate Zoë Wilshire to compete in the mixed pairs category. The pair’s Beauty and the Beast routine was dynamic and entertaining claiming the gold medal. The squad are now preparing for the next competition, The Heathrow International in four weeks time.
