Splitz Gymnastics Club recently travelled to the British Championships, held at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool. This was only their second competition as a squad and all gymnasts did an excellent job!
First up, were the National Level competitors. In age group 11-14, individual Ellise King gave a strong performance, but due to a small error was kept outside of the medals. Next up were the 11-14 pairs and Splitz had two entries in this category. Erin Aggett and Laila Astill showed a well executed performance, but were unfortunate on this occasion to be kept off the podium. The second pair, George Weall and Emily Williams, produced a fantastic routine, earning them a silver medal and they were only 0.05 marks away from first place! Our five 11-14 National Level gymnasts then teamed up to compete in the group section. King, Aggett, Astill, Williams and Weall performed a good routine earning them a silver medal. It was then the turn of our 15-17 year olds, Millie Meese and Taylor Drewer, who gave energetic performances to achieve personal best scores.
Day two and the competition moved to the Foundation and International Level gymnasts. In the Foundation Individual Category, 8 year old Millie Baker gave a promising performance at her first major competition. Splitz had two gymnasts competing in the International Competition. Charlie Baker was first up in the National Development Category. He gave an impressive performance, securing a gold medal, and was crowned British Champion! Finally, in the 12-14 International Category, Toby Baker took to the floor to produce an exciting and confident routine. Unfortunately, a small error kept Toby off the top spot and he secured a silver medal. Splitz Aerobic squad are now preparing to travel to Bulgaria in October to compete at the Plovdiv Cup.
